1) Camil, rumänischer Schriftsteller, * Bukarest 22. 4. 1894, ✝ ebenda 14. 5. 1957; erfolgreicher Verfasser bühnenwirksamer Dramen mit existenzphilosophischen Problematik sowie von psychologischen Romanen, die er mit neuer Technik (maßgebend war der Einfluss von M. Proust) zu gestalten versuchte. Zahlreiche theoretische Schriften zeigen Petrescus Interesse für philosophische Fragestellungen, v. a. für H. Bergsons Denken und die Phänomenologie E. Husserls.
 
Werke: Romane: Ultima noapte de dragoste, întâia noapte de razboi (1931; deutsch Letzte Liebesnacht, erste Kriegsnacht); Patul lui Procust, 2 Bände (1933; deutsch Das Prokustesbett); Un om între oameni, 3 Bände (1953-57; deutsch Ein Mensch unter Menschen, 4 Bände).
 
Drama: Danton (1931).
 
Ausgabe: Opere, herausgegeben von A. Rosetti u. a., 6 Bände (1974-84).
 
 2) Cezar, rumänischer Schriftsteller, * Hodora (Kreis Jassy) 13. 12. 1892, ✝ Bukarest 9. 3. 1961; schrieb zahlreiche erfolgreiche Romane und Erzählungen, in denen er nach dem Vorbild H. de Balzacs versuchte, eine umfassende Darstellung historischer und aktueller Gesellschaftsprobleme Rumäniens zu geben.
 
Werke: Romane: Întunecare, 2 Bände (1927-28; deutsch Umdüsterung, 3 Bände); Comoara regelui Dromichet (1931; deutsch Der Schatz des Königs Dromichet); Aurul negru (1934; deutsch Das schwarze Gold).
